Suicide is preventable…. Not inevitable
This year, we are campaigning to raise awareness of suicide prevention.
- Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50.
- We lose a person every 40 seconds to suicide.
- In the UK and Republic of Ireland, more than 6,500 people die by suicide each year.
- Suicide is preventable. There are many effective treatments available for mental health problems.
- The stigma around suicide needs to be challenged. We need to create a society where people feel comfortable asking for help if they are struggling.
- Governments need to make better, more ambitious plans to prevent suicide. They need to invest in mental health services and programs.
World Suicide Prevention Day is a global event that takes place every year on September 10th. The goal of the day is to raise awareness of suicide and to encourage people to seek help if they are struggling.
Suicide is a major public health issue, and it is important to remember that you are not alone. If you are thinking about suicide, please reach out for help. There are people who care about you and want to help you.
Here are some things you can do to help prevent suicide:
- Talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling.
- Contact a helpline, such as the Samaritans, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, or the Giveusashout.org text network for people who prefer to message and not speak.
- Visit your GP or another healthcare professional.
- Get involved in a suicide prevention campaign.
We can all play a role in preventing suicide. By raising awareness and talking about suicide, we can help to create a world where fewer people die by suicide.
Join us in our campaign to raise awareness of suicide prevention. Together, we can make a difference.
Please make a gift of any size to support our vital work, help us reach local men and signpost them to the abundance of mental health support available.
